Both Sandy and I accepted Jesus Christ in an old-fashioned independent Baptist Church in October of 1981. In September of 1982,  

I felt the Lord leading us to Unity Free Will Baptist Church, then located in Cleveland, Ohio, where I served in various capacities including Youth Director, Deacon and Sunday School teacher.

In April of 1986, I answered God’s call on my life to preach the gospel, serving as Associate Pastor from 1989-1999 at Unity. In 1999 Sandy and I were called to the United Free Will Baptist church in Cleveland Ohio where I served as Senior Pastor through 2004 in a bi-vocational role. 

We returned to the Unity FWB Church where I was blessed to serve as Senior Pastor from March 2006 to December 2025.

In May of 2026, the Lord opened a door of opportunity to serve Him as Pastor of Canaan Free Will Baptist Church where Sandy and I now joyfully serve the congregation.

I earned a Masters Degree in Theology and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Religion from Emmanuel Baptist University.

I have a love for the Lord and for His church. I not only want to see many come to know Christ, but I also want to equip the saints through sound biblical teaching and preaching. At Canaan, I will strive by God’s help and leading to reach this goal.

On a personal note, Sandy and I have been married since 1978. We are blessed with three children, and 5 grandchildren.

Haley Dennis is the secretary of Canaan. She grew up Canaan and is very passionate about serving. She lives in Rittman with her husband, Tyler, and three children, Tatum, Treyson, and Hattie. Haley and Tyler also teach the teen Sunday school class, she is part of the decorating committee and loves to help the activity committee with their planning of events.
